Just last season, Fendi made homage to Karl Lagerfeld with a Karl-centric collection and soon afterwards, the German designer-extraordinaire died. So with this SS20 collection, Silvia Fendi put a reset on her family's house with a safari-themed collection - as if to say, they are now searching what Fendi is without Karl. The result was as extraordinary as the man who designs the women's collection with beautiful and sophisticated tailored pieces mixed with sexy and slightly naughty garments and an entire caravan of delectable accessories. Bravo to Silvia!

Any fan of Fendi knows that Karl Lagerfeld has been with the label since before his days at Chanel and his presence is felt even in the menswear - which he doesn't contribute to. Until this FW19 collection where he was both the muse and contributor. The collection saw Lagerfeld's life flash before him, from his days an exercise fiend all the way to the present and his adoration of Dior Homme and, specifically Hedi Slimane. It was quite an interesting collection, indeed, one that spanned multiple decades from the 50s and 60s to the 80s to 2000s. Unlike most collections which focus primarily on only one, Lagerfeld's style has changed through the decades and so did this collection. The quirky modernity of the collection fit right in with Silvia Venturini Fendi's aesthetic and her penchant for creating the most adorable and covetable accessories - although those sheer pockets are a bit of a trick, aren't they?

Fendi's black-and-red motif for SS19 belied a lighthearted collection that professed love for Rome, had elements of card games, and a heavy dose of the house's signature double-F logo.

It was a triple F affair at Fendi's Fall/Winter 2018 collection: Fendi Frequent Fliers. Traveling was the theme, obvious by the airport baggage claim set. Silvia Fendi has a penchant for creating incredible collections of covetable pieces that sends the internet abuzz. For FW18, there were logo-centric designs seen on everything from knits to tees to luggage, of course. But since this collection is all about traveling, most pieces were reversible so if one did not want to advertise how double-F fabulous they are, they could be more demurely dressed without packing twice as many clothes. As for the prices of these double-duty clothes? Their ETA is not yet known but sure to be high.

With Fendi, exotic skins and stunning leathers are standard and while both were ever present at the label's SS18 show, the highlights from this season were the translucent jackets and pants that exuded a cool vibe. Other items of note were the branded accessories from the signature "F" logo on hats and crests of jackets to some retro inspired tailoring.

After what many will agree was a bad and disconcerting year (2016, that is), Silvia Fendi offered a positive and uplifting collection that had dictums to live by, such as "Love", "Think", "Fantastic" and "Bliss", mixed in with words like "Blue". Though the most prominent word on the clothing and accessories was, naturally, FENDI. The house name was seen on bags, shoes, and on the back of the heads of some models; they had been branded. The clothes themselves, dripping with luxurious skins with astronomical price tags, had a lot to offer the multi-multi-millionaire from puffers with fur lining or pants in a technical fabric or a plethora of functional and chic bags.

"Business or pleasure?" is what the Fendi man will be hearing a lot of next season if Silvia Fendi's SS17 show is any indication. A jaunt to the Middle East or Northern Africa could be what the doctor ordered and Fendi proffered a cool collection to go with that prescription. Chic layers of egalitarian clothes with graphic patterns littered the collection, as did some great bags and accessories.

For Fendi's Fall/Winter 2016 collection, Silvia Fendi created a playful collection that nodded to her family's rich history of fur by proffering kitschy takes on fur like a Big Bird-esque yellow bag, which matched the lining of a coat or a fuzzy fur suit or the cozy fur shoes. The lighthearted collection did not stop there, patch applique in lieu of a crest of a knit or googly eyes on a bag rounded out the collection. Aside from the more fantastical pieces, there were actually some good designs like a plaid topcoat or a thatched and textured knit.

Fendi launched into the public's eye with a bag that Carrie Bradshaw ooh'ed and aah'ed over years and years ago. With this collection, Fendi proffered a multitude of covetable and beautiful men's accessories: rucksacks and weekend bags galore! As for the clothes, they were relaxed and casual, with a suede or snakeskin coat here and there because this is Fendi and a little animal skin is nearly required. Meanwhile an applique bomber, with an evil-eye motif, seemed apropos to keep bad reviews, or PETA, away.

At the very heart of Fendi is its craftmanship and its knowledge of exotic skins and furs. Silvia Fendi put that on display today as the Roman label showcased its FW15 menswear. Shearling, crocodile, fur and suede were front and center in truly exquisite and intricate compositions. Bags were also plentiful and had plenty of fun (and profitable) trinkets, like sliced apples and Angry Birds pigs. There were also crocodile backpacks with a mesh pocket to hold one's soccer (err, football) ball, naturally. As for clothing, corduroy pants were outwardly simple but lush upon close up while the dizzying array of luxe outerwear ran the gamut from a leather jackets to a knit in a beautiful dégradé of wool to fur. Why not when money is no object for many of Fendi's customers.

Silvia Fendi's latest collection for her family's men's line included one of the big stories this season: denim. There are critics out there who view this as a big shift and ponder what this means for the men's fashion industry as whole. In reality, it seems quite business savvy. With so many fashion labels, both big and small, how do they differentiate? How do they attract new business? Denim, or to be more precise, jeans, are a staple in nearly everyone's life and while designer denim is still pricey, the price point is lower than a cashmere sweater or a crocodile bag. Add to that the brand recognition of Fendi (or Tom Ford etc) then it could possibly be a cash cow.
That being said, there was more to the collection than a few pairs of dark wash denim, there were in fact plenty of really great things, such as luxe cashmere sweaters or cool outerwear. Then there were the leather and exotic-skin accessories and Fendi's new headphone collaboration with Beats. Talk about cash cow!

Fendi wanted to remind everyone that they're known for their furs so what better way than to cover the entire runway in fur? That's exactly what Sylvia Fendi did for FW14; she not only showed off the new collection but also the house's new show space. For the upcoming season, it was all about mixed media, pairing furs with skins with wools and cashmeres, as well as cottons. Under less expert hands, the result could have been a mess but the Fendi family has ample knowledge at creating sleek silhouettes even with high pile furs like beaver. Particularly fetching were the rugged jackets and coats.
