RUNWAY: Givenchy FW14
After Riccardo Tisci's incredibly pattern-heavy SS14 collection, many were left with the indelible feeling that we've had enough of those Givenchy prints. For Givenchy's FW14 collection, Tisci proffered a more pared back, more sophisticated collection that centered around his immense tailoring skills. What little prints there were in the collection were more abstract and looked like a mix of watercolors, a beautiful and harrowing hologram effect. The show was held on a basketball court that was caged in (UFC meets Lebron James?) and the basketball theme was realized on simple but very chic colorblocked shirts and knits. A looser fit was also preferred in the collection, with wider pant legs, as well as longer lengths, sometimes hitting right above the sole of the shoes, which primarily showed sneakers, a customer favorite! Fur also made a welcomed appearance, from mink stoles to fuzzy mohair basketball singlets.
