RUNWAY: Smalto SS13
Super sharp tailoring was the focus of Smalto's SS13 collection. Luxurious fabrications were also seen, from crocodile to super light wools and cottons. For SS13, the Paris-based label focused on their clothes and not on the pomp and circumstance of a flashy runway showing. Models lounged in several rooms of a swanky hotel, wearing equally swanky fashions for any occasional, from a night out (tuxedoes) to a weekend look.RUNWAY: MiharaYasuhiro SS13
The 1950s were alive and well on MiharaYasuhiro's SS13 runway. The Fonz was front and center with cropped proportions, motorcycle jackets and the iconic haircut. A softened aesthetic was also shown for SS13, something a bit different for the Japanese house, which usually leans harder and more bohemian. Reptilian prints were seen, as were abstract paint splatters, which clashed with the overall 50s vibe of the collection but overall, the silhouettes the looks made were modern with their slim figures and short bottoms.RUNWAY: Maison Martin Margiela SS13
Sending a nearly all-white collection on an all non-Caucasian cast is not new but what was new at the SS13 Maison Martin Margiela collection was a looser, more relax fit. Since leaving the house that bears his name, the Margiela brand has drifted a bit from the creator's vision. Though still essentially Margiela, the look and feel of each collection is carving out a new identity for the house.RUNWAY: Acne SS13
Acne's dark collection for SS13 offered plenty of unusual fabrics for the upcoming season. Leather was highly featured while stripes, both horizontal and vertical and seen on nearly ever piece. A new silhouette was also offered, boxier and wider, compared to the house's previous collection that was more leaner and streamlined.RUNWAY: Kenzo SS13
Kenzo's Humberto Leon and Carol Lim took us to the jungle for the famed Japanese brand's SS13 collection. Soft animal prints were littered throughout the collection but rather than garish, the result was oddly chic, especially when shown with the collection's bright and effervescent color palette. The duo, the founders of Opening Ceremony, also looked to Kenzo's past and offered cropped wide trousers, hinting at Kenzo's Japanese heritage.
