RUNWAY: Versace SS18
Versace is having a huge resurgence in pop culture. The house name is uttered in song titles, like
Bruno Mars' latest single (
Versace on the Floor) while
Ryan Murphy's production company is telling the story of how the founding designer, Gianni Versace, was assassinated in Miami. Speaking of the assassination, 2017 marks 20 years since that brutal death. All these factors seemed to point to why Donatella opened up the Versace archives to pay tribute to her late brother. This was first, and foremost, seen in the showspace on via Gesu, the family palazzo and where the Versace Medusa symbol was born. The clothes had strong hints of the 80s and 90s and of Miami, powder blues and blush pinks made cameos while gold and a joie-de-vivre attitude was felt throughout the collection. Though the strongest were the outfits that were all Donatella: hard-edged and forward-thinking, such as a leather coat that looked to be held together with metal sutures.
