New York Fashion Week kicks off with Steven Alan's tropical themed Spring/Summer 2012 collection, littered with wide brimmed straw hats paired with unstructured suits and slouchy proportions that heightened the collection's holiday feel. We also saw some color blocking, a trend that seems unwilling to go away. Though gone are the hyperpigmented colors seen at Jil Sander's SS11 collection (which started this whole color blocking trend at Pitti Uomo); in its place are lighter, sun-bleached colors, at least seen in this collection. In the end, Steven Alan presented a very wearable collection that branches off from what we expect from the designer but showed something new that'll sure to catch the eye of future customers.
