From last season's rejection of walls, or barriers, Sankuanz offered another slightly political take for its SS19 collection, one that was rooted in Mexico's rich culture and history. It is quite fitting after the world saw the wonder and beauty of the country's heritage in the Disney film, Coco. There were other aspects that circled on this idea of culture and heritage and wanting to protect it that felt current and of-the-now; this manifested itself in metal chains and leather acting as a second skin. There was also vibrant colors and a joie-de-vivre as no one culture is all doom and gloom.

SANKUANZ's Fall/Winter 2018 collection was hard-edged with a strong fight-or-flight feel, though to felt more fight rather than flight. Taking inspiration from fighters throughout time, SANKUANZ offered new and unusual uses for certain fabrics like neoprene's water resistance was utilized to create rugged outerwear while ninja-inspired looks combined with the label's new take on camouflage was an interesting posit. Then there was the phrase "Kill The Wall" seen on handles of backpacks and on belts, a statement of resistance from the Chinese label.

Sporty explorers littered Sankuanz's FW17 collection, brimming with athletic references from mountaineering to one of the most famous explorers and scientists Charles Darwin and his theory of natural selection.

The naivete of Sankaunz's FW15 show, presented by GQ China once again, was charming. Pastel colors kicked off the collection with childlike frills and printed designs looked dreams, or drug induced visions, whichever. Bruised faces looked like spills on the playground while cropped trousers resembled ones your mom made you wear but you've since grown out of. Amidst all the lighthearted frills, the show ended on a more somber and hard-edged note, with an emphasis on tailoring and texture. Embossed jackets and pants were very chic but felt out of place with the rest of the collection, though it could be said that the finale is when the dream, from earlier, ends. When we've outgrown our childhoods. Or, if the drug references are followed, the hole we fall into after our high has ended.
