As Ralph Lauren battles to stay relevant in the age of branding, "ugly" fashion and the lightning speed of fashion from retailers such as Zara and Forever 21, his namesake house aims to offer more cohesion between its many lines and so there were sport references in the RXL, Polo and Black Label lines while Purple offered only luxurious tailoring and with a dash of flamboyance via a trippy metallic evening jacket. The collections felt forced and inauthentic in its viewpoint; a more succinct description might be that much of the collections resembled an epidemic among men nowadays where they try too hard to dress like they're 20 and become the "posers" they likely labeled others back in their teen years.
