RUNWAY: Paul Smith SS19
Paul Smith's been on the fashion landscape for nearly 50 years, a great feat in any industry, and with all the fashion designer shuffling that's been happening the past decade, Smith was feeling thankful that his namesake label is still independently owned - by him. So, with that in mind, he went back to the beginning and riffed off a collection that updated pieces from his archives some nearly 50 years ago. There were checkerboard shirts, black-and-white loafers and roomy tailoring, all of which would have fit just fine in today's design aesthetic. The pieces that stood out - good or bad, depending on one's eye - were the aged photographs that looked like they burnt on the fabric, images of landscapes, sunsets and surfers; it added a bit of nostalgia to the vintage-themed collection.
