RUNWAY: Dolce&Gabbana SS19
Another season, another controversy in which Stefano Gabbana puts his foot in his mouth. It's become a tired cycle where at least one, if not both, designers of Dolce&Gabbana says something offensive or flat out rude. Whether it be saying they don't support LGBTQ parents adopting or calling the most followed person on the most popular social media platform "ugly", the two Italian designers make it difficult for others to root for them. Instead, they prove once again how detached they are from actual reality. They also feud constantly with others, from print media they don't think are favorable enough to their collections, which quite honestly have not been strong for close to a decade, or to other designers, claiming others have stolen their idea, as if theirs are the only original ones.
That might be easier to ignore if the collections are thought provoking or intriguing. Alas, that is not the case; it's the same collection, reworked with more filler, whether it be cross motifs or fringe or entwined with gold. With over 130 looks on a plethora of models, including the great Naomi Campbell, there was not a new idea or look in the bunch.
One additional note on something that Dolce & Gabbana said that resonated: once they're dead, their label will die with them. More labels should go this route especially once they've stopped being able to push the conversation within the fashion world forward.
