RUNWAY: Dolce&Gabbana FW18
The themes and inspirations to
Dolce&Gabbana's collections often meld together and are increasingly hard to distinguish. It usually involves some baroque reference, Italian art, and a whole lot of ostentatiousness. There were references to Cupid and how love is love, interspersed among them were ideals of being a little prince. Breaking down these three, it's hard to reconcile them after the founding designers statements on gay adoption and marriage equality, to name two. Love is love except when it comes to same-sex couples getting married or a "non-traditional" family adopting a child without one. Then there's the little prince reference that's substantiated with all the ornate detailing and in-your-face excess. The problem with little princes are that they, too often, are spoiled beyond belief and are so detached from the real world, with their lives filled with those who don't challenge them so that growing and learning is stunted as the cavalcade of yes-men and yes-women only reinforce bad and tired behavior.
