RUNWAY: Prada SS18
From 70s intellectuals to 50s blue collar workers; that's the transition that
Miuccia Prada's namesake collection took from FW17 to SS18. For this latest outing, comic-like drawings from
James Jean and
Ollie Schrauwen littered the showspace while an elevated runway lent to the workman-inspired designs some level of adoration. These were fairly simple clothes: overalls, button downs, and boxy trousers. However, Prada seemed to be venerating these simple clothes, as if to admonish the in-your-face designs of her peers (though, arguably, few are on the same level as Ms. Prada) have been hocking to influencers on social media, whose job it is to be a human peacock. This collection was an excellent palate cleanser after the nauseating tedium that was the first day of Milan Fashion Week yesterday. It was also wholly refreshing that Prada chose to show only menswear this time around instead of her usual co-ed shows; a nice touch, especially since the show coincided with Father's Day.
