RUNWAY: Gucci Resort 2018
With gilded laurels atop almost every model's head,
Gucci's latest pre-collection was an ode to cultures now-past but have everlasting influence on the present. The parallel could be drawn that Gucci's maestro,
Alessandro Michele, has similar influence so much so that only a few seasons ago, Michele's name was barely on anyone's radar but now is synonymous with Gucci and whose visions for the Florentine label heavily influence his contemporaries. For Resort 2018, the past melded with the present while a cacophony of animal motifs, patterns and meta-branding lifted the collection to feel surprisingly fresh without seemingly repetitive of prior iterations.
