RUNWAY: Michael Bastian FW14

American designer Michael Bastian went from the romance of French men during his SS14 to strong Eastern influences for his Fall/Winter 2014 collection. Japanese influences came in the form of silky kimono inspired jackets to a kitschy and fun cashmere sweater with Godzilla appliquéed on. Bastian didn't abandon his bread and butter designs, like his signature suits and rugged luxury, which came in the form of mountain men wearing distressed leather jackets over striped shirts that are part of Bastian's most popular products. With news that Gant x Michael Bastian will present its final collection this Friday after nine season, Bastian seems to be showcasing he can attract the same popularity in the high-end menswear market and not just in the mid-market that Gant plays in.
