RUNWAY: Michael Kors SS14
American designer Michael Kors broke from tradition when he decided to show his men's Spring/Summer 2014 collection in New York shortly after the end of three-week men's European fashion calendar and months bfore the start of New York Fashion Week. Murmurs of what this could mean for the long-discussed idea of a men's fashion week in New York ran rampant but we won't know until (or even if) such an event takes place. What we do know is that for SS14, Kors seemed to align himself more with what we've seen from the European collections, like pajama pants, a play on volume and a more forward thinking design look, like sleeveless jackets. As Michael Kors edges closer to joining the elite class of designers who are billionaires, the collections he's created seem to be more egalitarian and less elitist. For those who worry about not seeing their favorite models, like Simon Nessman, on the Kors runway come September, fret not as Kors promises that during his womenswear show, there will be some men who accompany the women down the runway.
