RUNWAY: Givenchy SS14
It wouldn't be a Givenchy show without plenty of prints and for Spring/Summer 2014, Riccardo Tisci filled every millimeter of fabric with a tribal-cum-digi print that came on everything from pants to shirts to jackets to tee-shirts. Skateboarding references were also plentiful in the sporty way the clothes were cut and styled. While only two looks, both evening looks, were devoid of any print; they were, by sheer process of elimination, the most unique looks, both in their minimalism and will not to blend in with the entropic flurry of prints. The latter third of the collection showed a plethora of stripes, some with stars, harkening previous collections, SS13 to be exact. These outfits were more rugged and urbane, contrasting the digital prints that felt sterile. With this collection could Monsieur Tisci finally see the denouement of the fashion elite's love of Givenchy branded prints? Only time (and sales figures) will tell.
