RUNWAY: Giorgio Armani SS14
Giorgio Armani is used to being in the news for his frocks worn by the world's most famous celebrities. However, in recent years, the handsome Milanese designer has been making news for making brutally honest and sometimes accusatory comments, from claiming Dolce&Gabbana were copying his designs to most recently refusing to be a part of the Camera Moda, the Italian body that schedules Milan Fashion Week and is the equivalent of the CFDA and BFC. He also called out Italian labels for not showing in Milan and instead showing in Paris, he named two: Valentino and Miu Miu. Neither of those two have acquiesced to his demand that all Italian labels show in Milan as a sign of pride. Though he surreptitiously has no qualms over non-Italian labels showing in Milan and taking up valuable show space away from Italians.Nevertheless, Armani's two MFW shows are always a treat in elegant, deconstructed fashion. For SS14, his eponymous collection showed a lighter, more romantic, even slightly more feminine, side: with sun-bleached colors, soft, malleable jackets and a tenderness to the overall look, not to mention peplum-like drapes. Suiting options varied from sporty separates to more classic styles paired with two-tone bluchers.
