RUNWAY: Costume National Homme SS14
There are two prime reasons why Milan is falling behind New York, Paris and London in terms of prestige and innovation: (1) they do not endorse and promote young designers, so the talent they produce go elsewhere, usually London, to show their designs and (2) the big names that are showing are, for the most part, complacent in producing the same prosaic collection every year with minimal changes from fabrics to an extra button or zipper. The latter does not only apply to Costume National Homme but to many, even more famous, labels in Milan. For SS14, Costume National showed plenty of covetable looks that will surely sell because of its name and quality of design. However, it's beginning to be quite easy to predict what we'll see from many of these labels in Milan because in many cases it looks and feels quite repetitive.
