RUNWAY: Tim Coppens FW13
Belgian designer
Tim Coppens showed his first ever runway show last night during New York Fashion Week. After seasons of "hybrid" shows, part static presentation, part runway, Coppens broke out of the mold he put himself in and showed a runway collection deeply rooted in his childhood, with hints of teenage rebellion via graffiti prints to voluminous proportions that hinted at clothes his mother might have bought for him so it would last longer than a year. But peeling back the obvious, the layers he showed and the sporty details he's known for showcasing in his work at his own label, and prior at
Ralph Lauren, were evident in this show, but were much more refined and demure.
