RUNWAY: Qasimi SS12
Qasimi's SS12 merged the French military with some sinister and macabre patterns. Qasimi's social discourse could be tied to French President
Nicolas Sarkozy's recent military efforts in the Northern Africa, specifically Libya. In fact, we're quite sure, especially since the masks some models wore had an religious, if not rebellious, feel to them. One of our favorite pieces from the collection was a lace-y leather biker jacket worn by
Hary Goodwins, the look was undoubtedly hard but the addition of lace softened it considerably. Qasimi's tailoring skills could be seen in the modern one-button suits he featured, something we do not see often anymore since many designers seem to be edging towards double breasted suits, which do not always look flattering on leaner bodies. Overall, we loved the merging of politics and fashion in Qasimi's SS12 line. The message is probably more powerful because of Qasimi's ethnicity.
