RUNWAY: Gucci SS12
Frida Giannini's Spring/Summer 2012 collection for Gucci reaffirmed why the red-hot and super-talented Giannini has survived and thrived at Gucci when so many couldn't after the departure of He Should Not Be Named. For SS12, Frida found inspiration from golf (just like Ms. Prada!) and also incorporated Gucci's heritage as an equestrian brand, fueling SS12's trend of sports-themed collection.Sharp suits in Prince of Wales print stood out most in a collection of exceptional suits. Trousers were skinny and tailored perfectly, some with red tips at the cuff, adding a bit of flare. She also included just enough color blocking to create interesting contrasts without being repetitive, such as the coat Clement Chabernaud wears in the fifth look. In all, the collection was one of the strongest we've seen out of Milan this season and is certainly up there in Giannini's repertoire of great collections for Gucci.
