RUNWAY: Ann Demeulemeester SS12

Of the Antwerp Six, Ann Demeulemeester ties for number one, along with Dries Van Noten. Ann Demeulemeester's dark and broody collections always tugged at our heart strings with their poetic and sad beauty. For Spring/Summer 2012, Ann lightened the mood a bit with golden shades of alabaster. Demeulemeester's sharp tailoring was put to the test and succeeded, offering her man a range of options from boxy shoulders to the polar opposite, slouchy and draped.

She puts convention to the test by taking a garment and tailoring it inside out and that was present this season as well like in Anthon Wellsjo's last look: the jacket sleeves are made with what is normally the jacket lining. In this look, it creates a small color blocking effect, something Demeulemeester rarely does but follows the trend of color-blocked pieces for SS12. Though her collection was less dark and broody than we're used to, it still provided some great irony and poetry to keep us wanting more from this Belgian master.
