RUNWAY: Versace FW11

Last season, Donatella Versace received some negative reviews concerning the legacy of her brother, Gianni, and the direction she has taken the house. In our opinion, the direction Versace has taken in recent years has infused new energy into the brand. The futuristic warrior with his sleek silhouette is done perfectly by Donatella. This season, the first looks were heavily featured with textured leather treated to look like a special kind of armor. The effect is chic and juxtaposes the looks later on in the show, which are very soft and feel almost like Resort-wear.

Donatella is telling the fashion world that the Versace man doesn't not always need a coat of armor on but can be soft, wearing iridescent blues perfectly, without dandifying the man wearing it. The camel tones in the middle of the show felt out place though, especially the camel suit with a geometric vest over the jacket. Overall, the collection presented a cohesive mixture of of high-tech fabrics, cinched waists, and slim trousers that surely will entice the Versace man to continue his trips to the boutique next season.
