Milan Fall/Winter 2011 Trends
Looking at the offerings for Fall/Winter 2011 from Milan Fashion Week, three very clear trends could be seen: clothes inspired by 1970s glamour, bright colors and accented shoulders.Menswear is not the only place where the 70s are seeing a revival, womenswear has also been hinting at a renewed interest in the glamour of the 1970s (see Marc Jacobs' collection and Tom Ford's SS11 collections). Milanese designers decided to the join the bandwagon and showed clothes inspired from them, from Vivenne Westwood's red blazer to Dolce&Gabbana's velvet piqued lapel tuxedo, Corneliani's velvet trenchcoat and Roberto Cavalli's suede suit, with flared legs and matching shoes.
The bright colors the designers presented were hard to miss. Jil Sander started the trend with a myriad of brightly colored suits from violet to green. D&G, Bottega Veneta and Burberry Prorsum continues suit showing looks in hot pink, color blocked mustard and a shiny orange trenchcoat, respectively.
Should pads are back, if Miuccia Prada has any say in it. Her ultra-should padded jackets created intensely boxy looks on the runway, while Z Zegna and Alexander McQueen went for rounded and deconstructed shoulders.
