RUNWAY: Ermenegildo Zenga FW14
Stefano Pilati and
Ermenegildo Zegna's partnership seems to be a perfectly logical and natural idea. The former brings expertise and a trained eye for design while the latter brings an economy of scale and resources that's almost unheard of in menswear. It is with great aplomb that Pilati sent out a collection of chic suits for FW14, slightly inspired by the future but without the garish pageantry. The heart of the collection were the incredible outerwear, all slightly oversized, like a plaid bomber with a dropped shoulder to billowing overcoats in lush cashmeres and vicuna, a fabric that's more luxurious, scarce and expensive than cashmere. A particularly fetching piece was a cropped cashmere jacket with a draped lapel, almost like an ascot or scarf. The litany of eye-catching fashion and the multimedia backdrop may be too much for some people's sense but to us, we want more.
