Prada's Wooyoungmi's latest collection took us to "paradise" with a retro-cum-tropical vibe that manifested itself into palm tree silhouettes against a sunset on boxy shirts, flowy and colorful pants and accessories that brought home the theme of the collection.

The bourgeoisie are overtaken by the proletariat at Wooyoungmi's Fall/Winter 2019 collection and the result offered a anarchistic thread that ran throughout the collection. This was heightened by the presence of clashing plaid layers, leather, acid washed denim, chic suiting, woolen greatcoats and more.

Wooyoungmi's Katie Chung - daughter of the founding designer - offered a mix of modern and vintage for her SS19 collection. The oversized Cuban collars added that vintage flair, as did the roomier cuts, while the subtle branding seen on belt buckles and the crest of a shirt added a modern twist and was in line with current trends. Her use of patterns always also quite strong, offering jackets, coats and vests in various classic patterns but in more lighter tones to help soften them and make them palatable for the summery months.

There's been a changing of the guards, per se, at Wooyoungmi. Is there a noticeable difference? In a way, yes. This FW18 collection, designed entirely by the founding designer's daughter, Katie Chung, was notably younger and felt more open to risk, with giant oversized outerwear, exaggerated collars and quite a bit of punk. There are still strong hints of the South Korean label's signature patterns and tailoring but a heavier emphasis was on the street-inspired designs. Men don't like big changes and the ones here are not life-changing; they are gradual enough and in line with the rest of the industry that the designer and perspective change will have little to no effect on the bottom line.

Bruised and battered bad boys from the local private school wore the rebellious layers at the mother-daughter team behind Wooyoungmi designed for SS18. Aside from the makeup that conveyed the rough-edged bend of the boys, the clothes themselves were askew and rebellious, a quarter of a knit was mixing, revealing the oversized shirt underneath while boxy trousers were reminiscent of skater culture. In the end, the youthful collection hit all the trend notes for SS18: boxy, fluid layers with a strong dose of knits and outerwear. Heatwaves be damned!

Soft tailoring in oversized proportions and a gender bending look lent Wooyoungmi's FW17 collection into new territory, away from the buttoned up and proper tailoring they're known for. Here, there were rounded shapes seen on the coats, giving them a feminine touch while tartan patterns littered the collection from oversized trousers to suits.

Korean label Wooyoungmi sent down their Spring/Summer 2017 runway mop-haired models in retro inspired fashions, full of windowpane patterned clothes, with proportions wide and fluid.

Wooyoungmi's FW16 collection was serene and calming, with natural hues highlighted with floral influences and touches of colors seen in a garden like rust on a hoe or green from moss. Billowy layers underneath shapely coats showed a calm and nonchalant take on dressing, like one would wear on a Sunday troll with a new or old love.

Exploration (to the moon, to be exactly) was the theme at Wooyoungmi's SS16 collection, featuring harness-inspired accoutrements, adding not just an athletic vibe to the collection but also sexual. Layers were so light they were practically see-through while tailoring was flowy, to allow for movement and a sense of freedom. When one's on the moon, with little gravity, it's quite easy to feel free.

Wooyoungmi's play on proportion and fit yielded a collection that sometimes felt obtuse but was marked by incredible highs, like the texturally rich outerwear, with a bit of colorblocking, or slouchy jackets like one a grandfather may wear that's two sizes too big, but without ever losing the label's strong tailored aesthetic.

It's a family affair at Wooyoungmi as the designer, Woo Youngmi, created this collection with her daughter. The result was a meld of hard and soft. Tough boys with shiny, gelled hair gingerly walked down the runway in their voluminous trousers and paper-thin polos and tees. Knits were long and square while floppy hats gave a sense of ease.

South Korean designer Woo Youngmi created yet another super chic collection of well tailored suits and separates for FW14. She utilized felt, like many other designers did this season, and showcased its versatility, either one a plaid patterned coat or as an accent fabric on a suit jacket. Her use of rounded panels underneath a suit jacket or coat was smart and added a great style note. What little pattern was used was maximized to great effect, such as windowpane pants paired with a knit that featured a weave design. Woo Youngmi's biggest strength is her ability to create sharp and youthful suiting, even if the pants this season rivaled Thom Browne in their length, or lack thereof.
