Paul Surridge, who did stints at Zegna and Jil Sander, has hit his stride at Roberto Cavalli with a very strong and vibrant FW19 collection that offered a good mix of flamboyance and tailoring excellence. The striking and dramatic coats, either in pearlescent white or abstract wave pattern are just two example of Surridge's win this season.

RUNWAY: Roberto Cavalli FW19

Roberto Cavalli's new designer, Paul Surridge (previously at Jil Sander and Z Zegna), offered a strong debut for the Italian house now owned by Clessidra. There was no lack of animal print but the strongest pieces were the ones that mixed the codes of the house (maximalist prints) with Surridge's pristine and carefree tailoring skills. There was plenty to digest here, ardent fans will see familiar offerings that won't dissuade them to go to other maximalist designers while those who've shied away from the loud prints and its equally vocal namesake designer will find something to appeal to them as well.

Roberto Cavalli's new designer, Paul Surridge who previously was at Ermenegildo Zegna and Jil Sander, offered a restrained Fall/Winter 2018 collection. While there were plenty of references to the namesake designer's signature excess and glamour, the focus on tailoring for men were a nice alternative to the high-life designs that made the house world famous.

A trip to Northern Africa is where Roberto Cavalli's Peter Dundas took the audience on for the label's SS17 collection, which was full of bold and colorful prints and a hippie vibe that was undoubtedly calmer and less maximist than the eponymous designer's designs.

Peter Dundas returns to Roberto Cavalli to build upon what the Italian designer has built, pushing forward the prints the world knows as Cavalli and injected a bit of modernity and soft romanticism, as evidenced by the label's FW16 campaign featuring Benji Staker, Erik van Gils, and Logan Flatte, shot by Tim Walker and styled by Ellie Grace Cummings.

At Roberto Cavalli's FW16 show, there were exotic skins, fur, and a myriad of silk shirts. Did we mention it was a men's collection? For Peter Dundas' debut men's runway collection for Cavalli, the designer went all out and paid homage to the man whose name is on the tag. Adding a bohemian take and a kitschy take on denim gave the collection a youthful vibe while still adhering to the codes of the house: glam and luxury. Suiting was laid back, paired with an open shirt or a silken scarf, oversized, of course. The story here was with the great outerwear: exotic skins, fur coats, velvets and a few, more modest pieces for the not-as-adventurous man. This collection is sure to make the label's new parent company, Clessidra quite happen.

RUNWAY: Roberto Cavalli FW16

Rumors of Roberto Cavalli selling a majority share of his namesake company have hit fever pitch in the last few months, though no announced has been made. However, it seems like Cavalli feels his menswear is strong enough to showcase it on the runway rather than the intimate presentations he's preferred the last few seasons, maybe to lure in investors who worry that his menswear isn't as strong as his womenswear? After all, menswear sales are projected to continue to outpace womenswear. This return to the catwalk yielded a melange of cuddly furs, boldly patterned jackets and sleek tailored pieces. The high octane life of a Cavalli man ranges from rockstar on stage to red carpet doyen in a slim fitted tuxedo jacket and leather pants; all of which the Italian designer showed today.

As the first model paraded down the runway, one could feel the sex appeal from Roberto Cavalli's Spring/Summer 2015 collection. His signature animal prints like, cheetah and snakeskin, were heavily featured, but a crocodile jacket brought a heightened level of luxury to the collection's high energy, Miami inspired vibe. Open shirts revealed plenty of skin while tailored pieces such as a linen suit in powder blue were perfect complements to the warm and humid climate. Cavalli's collection are all about living life to the fullest, carpe diem!, and flaunting it while you've still got it.

Robert Cavalli and animal prints are synonymous with one another and though the Italian designer featured his signature prints during his FW14 menswear show, the focus was on futuristic tailoring. Starting off with sharp suiting that had echoes of Ann Demeulemeester-style tailoring, the collection quickly took off with bold and sharply cut collars on shirts to coats that were cut close to the body, like a wonderful herringbone coat on Baptiste Radulfe.

RUNWAY: Roberto Cavalli FW14

Disappointed as one might be that Roberto Cavalli chose once again to show a presentation rather than a full runway show for his latest collection, we were pleased to find a sophisticated and demure collection from the usually lavish and sometimes outlandish designer. Save for some flamboyance via sequence and other shiny additions, the SS14 collection felt modern in its silhouette and grown up.
