Britain cannot seem to escape the mess its gotten itself into with Brexit and Martine Rose has had enough with this very pointed take on Parliament and the farce of bureaucracy. All one has to do is look at the "Promising Britain" tees seen throughout the collection to get a sense of Rose's frustrations with the political mess. And so with that said, it's no wonder there was a strong hint of 80s punk and rebellion in these clothes, worn by haphazardly wigged models.

The similarities between Martine Rose's collection and that of Balenciaga are quite strong, the former did work with Demna Gvasalia on the latter's collections early on. With that similarity comes a familiar sense of newness and a youthquake taking over, one that seems to be quite needed. With the advent of social media, teens are influencing society far quicker and more powerfully than ever; they're using their voices to promote inclusion, stop gun violence and clap back at stodgy politicians who dismiss that they are the future. That sort of confidence is evident in this collection, as is the designer's point of view.

Utility and activewear are central to Martine Rose's Spring/Summer 2018 collection, which offered oversized proportions, seen on coats, pants and shorts, while compression and sports-inspired designs, even the reflective footwear, matched the indoor mountain climbing showspace.

Offbeat fashion, along with some serious hair-scapes, were on full display at Martine Rose's FW17 show. There were layered bottoms (does one really need 2 levels of belts?) as well oversized fanny-packs, ultra-wide shoulders and voluminous trousers paired with sneakers. It was all a bit weird but surprisingly refreshing in its individuality.

A mod feel was in the air at Martine Rose. Wildly voluminous trousers proliferated the quirky runway presentation that also showed patchwork in a clean and modern way, opting instead of for a neat layout on the clothes rather than haphazardness. The always intriguing proportions and styling during this particular show makes it a sure fire guessing game as to the original inspiration.
