Couples who Lacoste together, stay together. Or so this charming SS19 presentation from the French label would suggest as they pair models in matching outfits. The interpretation could be multiple: tennis partners! life partners! preppy gang members!. Regardless of what one thinks the purpose of the pairings are, the clothes they wear are undoubtedly inspired by the stylings of the late-1990s with baggy layers, branding, and even accessorized in a similar fashion - take the gold chain necklace worn under the collar of a polo.

Since moving its runway collection from New York to Paris, Lacoste has been taking more risk with its collection, moving closer towards Fashion rather than its billionth iteration of its iconic polo shirt. For FW17, there were a plethora of bucket hats that made the clothes seem almost unisex as one could not always ascertain which sex the wearer was and since the clothes were generally oversized, it did not matter because if you liked a mixed-pattern track suit or baggy jeans, you should buy it regardless of your sex. And so there were plenty of garments that a fashion-forward couple would be able to borrow from one another, assuming they're the same size, from the hats to coats to sneakers.

Lacoste is one of the labels that moved its runway show from New York to Paris this season and it seems right since Lacoste is a French label, founded by famed tennis player Rene Lacoste. For the SS18 collection, there was an undoubted retro vibe to the collection, accented by mustached models in slouchy tracksuits, white tees, and pristine kicks.

Soon after Lacoste's FW17 show, the label announced that this collection would be the last shown at NYFW. The iconic French label will move its show to Paris next season...and for the foreseeable future. For its New York swan song, this collection reached for the stars, quite literally. Space-age-y prints littered the sporty collection that offered plenty of utility and athleticism.

Felipe Jean Baptiste created a slouchy and laid back collection for Lacoste's latest collection, focusing on roomy, easy to wear layers.

Lacoste's Felipe Oliveira Baptista will outfit the French delegation at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and in the lead up to that event, Lacoste's SS16 collection showed a great sense of patriotism and positivity but was also juxtaposed with a military theme that seemed to signal a reaction to the various conflicts around the world. The duality of the collection from military themes to the world coming together to participate in the Olympics made for a great narrative.

"Rene did it first" stated the opening men's look at Lacoste. Rene Lacoste was the starting point of this collection and of the requisite tennis shirt, though they were few and far between in this outing. Headbands brought home the tennis theme while graphic shirts and knits asking "Tennis Anyone?". However, the strongest points of this collection were the pieces that had clean lines and a structural look, like a cape/coat hybrid on Abiah Hostvedt or a matching pair of shirt and coat with simple trims on Fernando Cabral.

Felipe Oliveira Baptista's last collection for Lacoste was cool and technical, with a strong emphasis on the French label's sailing heritage. The pieces that melded sport with tailoring faired best while the overtly sporty, like the jerseys or jersey inspired pieces, felt out of place and tried too hard to be trendy. Nevertheless, there were sleek polos in muted colors, abstract graphic tees, great outerwear and high fashion detailing to differentiate itself from the requisite polos the label is best known for.

Lacoste has always been quite sporty, recognized around the world by its alligator logo. For the label's Fall/Winter 2014 collection, Felipe Jean Baptiste chose interesting fabrics, like felt and metallics, and melded it with the noveaux-sport look he has championed since taking the helm at the label, take for example the abstract print on a hoodie, paired with ethereal white pants and quintessential tennis shoes. Though the highlight of the collection were the supremely elegant coats, like a soft, cream colored topcoat on Guerrino Santulliana.

Lacoste's Felipe Jean Baptiste has transformed the French label into an ultra-sporty, modern iteration of its former self. His offerings for Lacoste's Spring/Summer 2014 collection include ethereal colors, such artistic wave prints on a translucent shirt, pajama-inspired fashion that seems to have transported itself from the men's collection in Europe back in June and July, to slim and flattering suiting that's surprisingly fresh for the casualwear label. With the US Open happening concurrently as NYFW, it's hard not to find parallels between Lacoste's collections every year and the famed tennis championship.
