A knit at Julien David offered the only word needed to describe the collection: ordinary. Except it was antithetical to the collection which was extraordinary with its treatment of "ordinary" clothes - denim jeans, denim shirts, overalls and the like. The lightweight fabrics gave the clothes a chic wearability while the beautiful textures added dimension to the "ordinary" collection. Did you see the metallic outerwear and suit? Not ordinary at all.

Julien David's FW17 collection offered boyish clothes that had an adventurous spirit, with most looks paired with chunky hiking boots. The mountaineering theme was also seen on harnesses on the jackets while foliage patterns rounded out the outdoorsy collection.

Many designers are often inspired by the ocean or by water and their collection oft times showcases sailor inspired looks or mermaids. Julien David was also inspired by the ocean but the reference came in the form of his fabrications and the color palette. The fabrics were innovative in their movement and resemblance to waves, in effect utilizing the theme in a fashion-forward direction.

Whether or not capes will become an actual piece of outerwear that high fashion designers can convince the average man to wear is a question but Julien David offered a convincing take on it. In his FW16 collection, utility was a strong focus with an emphasis on blue collar uniforms. The clothes, slightly distressed with unfinished seams, looked worn and comfortable while metallic colors on an oversized jacket gave the collection a futuristic feel, the same can be said for the Edward Scissorhands-like coifs.

Lightweight and crinkled tailoring was Julien David's take on summer suits, deconstructing them and allowing them to be dressed down, with a matching pair of shorts and an untucked shirt. These carefree looks were supplemented by haunting face masks that look straight out of an Expressionist painting.  Adding to the artistic tone of the collection were printed flowers, colored outside the lines, which could very much be an analogy for the this collection as a whole.

Tech firms like Facebook, Google and Tumblr have heralded in the age of very casual business dress. Julien David played on that idea with a disheveled take on tailoring for FW15: loose layers, undone ties, and even a kitschy emblem that read "Serious Business" on a knit.

A fun and cheeky take on formalwear was the highlight at Julien David's Spring/Summer 2015 collection, take for example a wetsuit with a tuxedo design in front. Other notable moments include elongated and widened cuts, from blazers to voluminous shorts with a classic tuxedo top, with a backwards baseball cap.

Julien David's reggae inspired collection was about harmony and a laid back lifestyle. Relaxed fit and a slouchy silhouette reigned supreme while a mix of colors, patterns and prints offered a free spirited way of dress. Mixed in with all this were chic iterations of suit separates like a jacquard suit with drop crotch pants melded city life with island life.
