Frankie Morello's rocker-inspired FW18 collection offered studded leather, intricate embroidery and a some great pop art-like graphics seen on knits and jackets.

Frankie Morello's splashy Spring/Summer 2018 is a literal description, thanks to the runway that was filled with water, making for a wet experience for the clothes and the front row. As for the clothes themselves, they offered futuristic motifs while the water theme was seen on handsome bombers. The collection was also heavily styled with plenty of jewelry and a handful of headpieces.

Leather Medieval-inspired garb added a hard edge to Frankie Morello's dark FW16 collection while touches of heritage fabrics like herringbone tempered that hard edge with a bit of elegance and grace. It was a balancing act that didn't always balance. The collection, in the aggregate, felt uneven but the strongest pieces were the simpler, more utilitarian ones while the more ornate and complicated ones felt off.

One of the big trends this season has been graphic patterns and prints, especially stripes, and the designers behind Frankie Morello upped the ante with this busy collection that criticized the turmoil seen throughout the world from various wars in the Middle East and Europe, as well as riots in Brazil, Turkey and more. The message was clear from the first look's photo print sweatshirt of a bomb exploding and made even clearer at the finale of the show when one shirt simply said "Made Art, Not War". Aside from the strong visuals, there was still plenty of like, from stark suiting underneath a static-printed trench to a jacket that looked like it was made from shattered glass. The designers were unapologetic about getting their message out loud and clear.

The always cheeky duo behind Frankie Morello, Maurizio Modica and Pierfrancesco Gigliotti, opted for an urbane on menswear, with ample sportswear, seen from the opening look's ombre sweatshirt with relaxed trousers to more elegant takes like a padded white topcoat, which was pristine in its tailoring and slightly oversized proportions. The finale featured a more sinister take on tailoring, with some commentary on social media.

Frankie Morello took their tailoring prowess and took it to the street to help create the look for their sporty collection that melded a few trends like florals to high fashion activewear into a coherent, albeit busy, colelction.

Though the Italian label Frankie Morello tends to be more gimmick-y than others during Milan Fashion Week, we were pleasantly surprised with their version of a subdued, even demure, collection. For the duo, it was practically minimalists! Tailoring was brought back to the forefront and it was one of the reasons the collection felt like such a hit. We especially liked the use of herringbone to accent some of the starker outfits. As for the outerwear, we were smitten with the one Alexandre Cunha wore in a hunter green; the black coats with geometric stitching was also quite fetching. In all, it was a well made and cohesive collection that felt naturally modern.
