Tonight's Alexander Wang show marked the 10th anniversary of Wang's eponymous label and a handful or so of menswear looks made their way into the runway show. The ensuing collection was rife with street influences from skaters to the grunge movement the designer undoubtedly saw first hand growing up, thanks to 90s fashion,. The presentation was noticeably more refined, from the silken fabrics to the technical fabrics that he likely learned and honed in on during his time at Balenciaga, which as now ended.

Utility and military go hand in hand and Alexander Wang put his spin on both with his SS16 collection. Drab hues of olive and beige added variety among the black-on-black designs that the Chinese American designer so often proffers. Patches were sewn onto jackets and shirts that resembled Morse code, like one might have seen come through the cables during WWII while a few cool bags rounded out the collection.

A few weeks after the conclusion of fashion week, editors and other fashion cognoscente arrive in New York to see Alexander Wang's capsule collection for fast fashion retailer H&M. The result was an all-black collection that played less on New York City's un-official color and more on reductive designs from Wang, including oversized puffers, neoprene sweatsuits, and plenty of trimmed detailing highlighting that it's all about the Wang.

Like most of H&M's capsule collections, this will sell well because of its price point, allowing teens and struggling 20-somethings a bit of the fashion dream at affordable prices; so who cares if the offerings are as exciting as the color palette? Consumers of fast fashion designs will be smiling after their purchases, so too will Wang and H&M as they smile all the way to the bank.

To say Alexander Wang's plate is full would be an understatement. It's unsurprisingly that his eponymous label would see some parallels from one another, especially since there is always one or two collections for both men and women being designed around the same time. For SS15, that was evident when the same design tactics were seen at Wang's recently shown Resort 2015 collection and this one; but the collections could not be interchangeable. The men's collection below preferred utilitarian design and functionality with high end technical fabrics over capital-F Fashion. A tire track bomber was chic and resembled, from afar, crocodile skin while wide-pocketed bermuda shorts look to be a hot item for the fashion conscious hipster next season.
