RUNWAY: Off-White FW19
Everyone wants a piece of
Virgil Abloh and that was even before he ascended to his current perch as the men's style director at Louis Vuitton. He's been at the center of the zietgeist for awhile now and with this extra focus, comes extra scrutiny. Take this collection that had all the hallmarks of an
Off-White men's collection, though it all seemed eerily familiar to a collection by certain Belgian designer who vacated his spot at a formerly-leading American label from three years ago. Then there was Offset, from the group Migos, who walked the show in an oversized lilac puffer - the same rapper who cheated on his wife, the much more famous and talented Cardi B. and then continued to embarrass her with public displays asking for her forgiveness, such as interrupting her set and coming on stage to ask for her to take him back. In the climate we live in, having him walk seemed a bit tone deaf. Or was Kevin Hart unavailable? Nevertheless, there were some truly great things here, like those elongated puffers with attached crossbody fannypacks (let's call a spade, a spade!), as well as the quilted jumpsuit and the mixed-media suits, looked like future social media and editorial darlings.
