RUNWAY: Hermès SS19
Hermès' strength is in its stalwartness and, at least with regard to its menswear, a big part of that is because of
Veronique Nichanian. The Frenchwomen has been at the helm of Hermès menswear for decades and has honed the quiet luxury that most labels aim for but rarely attain. This is, of course, due in part to the ultra luxurious fabrics Nichanian has access to and the capital to hire the best atelier to achieve her vision. For SS19, there were strong elements from the general population that popped up here, such as fanny packs - let's call a spade, a spade at this point - as well as a tracksuit, sans shirt of course for a little sex appeal. Though both looked elegant enough that they wouldn't be lumped in together with one from, say, Juicy Couture. There were stunning lambskin outerwear and amazingly rich hues, like a series of tangerine colored pants, while some abstractly patterned knits added some depth to the collection and the two horse-bit printed shirts were likely the most street this high end collection went.
