RUNWAY: Bobby Abley SS18

Bobby Abley uses his childhood memories as jumpoff points for his collections. He's been inspired from Disney movies and now by a 90s childhood staple: Teletubbies. Teletubbies was a British show about four cute aliens roaming a grassy knoll, talking gibberish. This connects to Abley's entropic Spring/Summer 2018 collection because the collection offered a commentary on outsiders; a topic which seems so appropriate in today's political atmosphere; just a few weeks from the Manchester attack, days after the London Bridge attack and the Parliamentary vote. Abley's narrative, under the guise of kitsch and outre fashion, was powerful and he's not be discounted as another designer who makes irrelevant garments.
