RUNWAY: Balenciaga SS18
Balenciaga's
Demna Gvasalia tapped Swiss families from Zurich to walk in the label's SS18 show that showed tiered trousers, the label's now-requisite oversized hoodies, and a bit of narrative that highlighted the current state of European affairs. Switzerland is, after all, neutral but this collection generally wasn't. It advocated for a united Europe with a (relatively) big helping of diversity in the cast while the aforementioned tiered pants could be seen as a metaphor for different fabrics (or people) living peacefully together. Meanwhile, the slouchy tailoring Gvasalia created were very fresh and inviting but a smattering of puffers seemed weirdly positioned in an otherwise light collection.
