RUNWAY: Dolce&Gabbana SS16
It's been a tumultuous few years for the design duo behind
Dolce&Gabbana. First there were the allegations and convictions on tax fraud and possible jail time, which never happened. Then, there were the ignorant comments on IVF and surrogacy and the non-apology that followed. And yet, here they are, showcasing an expansive, and oft times superfluous, collection rooted in Asian culture, from the silks to elaborately printed clothes. It was a nice change of pace to see the images of peacocks, temples, and floral motifs, even if it at times it felt forced. There were over a hundred looks, a retailer's dream, but a highly edited version would've been more than sufficient, especially in today's world where 135 characters or a 9 second looping video are all we can stand to say to sit through.
