RUNWAY: Perry Ellis SS15
Perry Ellis, the mega-brand that's based in Miami, has been absent from NYFW for three years, a lifetime in fashion terms. With the appointment of its new menswear director, Michael Maccari, Perry Ellis was confident in their new hire to stage a return to the runway. Much like the structured backdrop, the clothing Maccari designed was structural, melding tailoring with sport, an all too familiar starting point for many a menswear label. Nevertheless, the collection's attempt to branch out from the public's persception of the label as a mall-friendly, mass retailer was mostly successful, especially when it came to the outerwear; however, we hope the fanny packs are more of a nod to the past as a signal of where men's accessories are going. In the end, Maccari's first go at NYFW was largely a success, with enough Fashion, capital "F" to placate the audience and plenty of wearable, and sellable, clothing.
