RUNWAY: Valentino FW14

From the opening look, it was clear that Valentino's FW14 collection would be different: more casual and sportier. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, the co-Creative Directors at Valentino, showed made-to-measure denim and paired them with voluminous outerwear, more evidence that the Chiuri and Piccioli were looking to relax the rigid, military-esque tailoring of season's past. They were also inspired by the American west, with plenty of eagle motifs throughout, as well as geometric patterns on coats, like the one on Abel Van Oeveren. The finale of the show highlighted that even though this collection was more casual with its denim and skin-heavy outerwear, the codes of the house still remain when it comes to excellently tailored suiting.
