RUNWAY: Alexander McQueen FW13
It's been years since the death of
Alexander "Lee" McQueen. The house he built lives on to carry in his memory. Since his death, however, the menswear atelier headed up by
Sarah Burton has been lacking an identity of its own, separate from McQueen but still reverential of it. However, the runway show moving to London from Milan seems to have invigorated the house. The FW13 collection is more succinct and feels separate from the man and the collections he created while still retaining the DNA. What started out as a sinister and subversive series of outfits full of Edwardian references, morphed into a melange of harrowing looks that shocked the senses. We particularly were keen on long, oversized cashmere overcoats. Even the gilded finale coat was quite fetching.
