RUNWAY: Thom Browne SS12
Once again, Thom Browne capped off Paris Fashion Week and for his SS12 collection, the quirky American designer took inspiration from the 1920s and cabaret. Browne has dressed his models in skirts and short shorts before but for this collection, the skirts were tasseled and the shorts were...well, they weren't so short. This is the 1920s afterall, there had to some modesty. Our favorite piece though were the elongated suit jackets that took their inspiration from flapper dresses. A close second were the varsity jackets that were seen in Browne's signature red, white and blue stripes. Both were so beautifully well done and as for the flapper suit jackets: they encapsulated the entire collection into one well cut, well thought out piece. There were also very strong shoulders seen on the more masculine looks. Those looks took their idea from the patrons of said cabarets. In all, this was a very strong collection from Thom Browne and pared back the eccentricities of his last collection that we dubbed "Alex in Wonderland". For SS12, Browne went back to the suit that made him famous and either made them boxier or stretched them to dress-length.
