RUNWAY: Raf Simons SS14

Raf Simons' influence on fashion, not just menswear, is palpable. After his first couture show at Dior, one season later, other couturiers and RTW designers mirrored the tailoring and silhouettes he showed. When it comes to menswear, however, this phenomenon is not new; the soft toned designer has been a leader since the 1990s. Now that he's reached the pinnacle of fashion (haute couture) it was time to look back and reflect a bit. In doing so, he tapped graphic designer Peter Saville to help create the graphic tees that were seen, many of which were elongated to the point of covering up the tailored micro shorts many of the models wore. Those tees had a 90s feel in their stance on commerce and commercialism.

As a whole, Simons' show was such a polar opposite to what we've seen thus far during the SS14 runway season that it was incredibly refreshing to witness. It leaves no doubt that come the Fall/Winter 2014 season, we'll see some iterations of this collection transition into Autumn looks by other designers who were, we're quite sure, as wowed by the collection as the audience today was.
