Glenn Martens's latest collection his award-winning label Y/Project continued in the same vein as previous collections: exploring the limits of tailoring, proportion and fit. While this could easily turn into fodder, the smart editing in this collection amplified the innovative tailoring that looked equal parts beautiful and asinine.

Y/Project was invited to be the special guest designer at Pitti Uomo this season. Glenn Martins, the designer behind Y/Project, is known for his exploration of shapes. This manifested itself this season with a strong pattern story that gave off 3D effects, like one was looking at a puzzle. Fabrications also trended towards luxe with rakish trousers and fuzzy corduroys.

After winning the ANDAM Award, Y/Project's Glenn Martens has enjoyed an influx of capital but also attention from the fashion press. This influx of capital has allowed investment in new technologies and this showed at the SS19 collection. There were 3D printed items while an increase in fabric research and treatment has been evident the last few seasons. Denim is a big player in this collection while more adventurous items include body suits, with many items offering offering removable pieces for style but also as a narrative on armor.

Y/Project's Glenn Martens recently won the ANDAM Prize, the same prize that put designers like Martin Margiela and Anthony Vaccarello of Saint Laurent on the map. In his first men's collection since the win (it was in July 2017, just after the label's SS18 show), Martens jumps out of the box with a collaboration with UGG, featuring everything from comfy and furry slippers to thigh high boots, which already has the fashion set's tongues wagging. As for the clothing, Martens continues to play with proportion and fit, highlighting paneled denim, double sleeved sweaters and oversized accessories.

Y/Project's designer Glenn Martens recently won the ANDAM Prize and will receive a cash prize and a year of mentorship. For now, however, the label drops its FW17 campaign, shot by Arnaud Lajeaunie and styled by Ursina Gysi.

Volume played a significant role in Y/Project's latest collection, offering up high-waisted pants, voluminous puffers tied around the waist, and proportionally askewed tailoring.

What word is the next level up from "exaggeration"? That would be an apropos description of Glenn Martens' latest collection for Y/Project. The structure of the warped clothes were a marvel and, though not entirely practical, were still a sight to behold if only for its workmanship. Throughout the collection, the warped proportions, fit and design deftly described the sort of world everyone is living through. Then the finale of two oversized, floor-length coats, with fur accents, descended down the runway and the rest seemed like a dream. If only.

What would a romantic swashbuckler wear? Just to look to Y/Project's Spring/Summer 2017 collection to find out. A melange of references included reggae music, romance, pirates, and, most strange of all, Las Vegas. Though a bit eccentric in its influences, the SS17 collection offered some cool new pieces, like a cut-out leather jacket, the button-heavy jackets and pants may not be for everyone.

Y. Project's latest collection played on shapes: take the denim chaps, an asymmetric suit and trenchcoat. Elongated proportions also played a part in this subversive collection, like a coat that dragged on the floor.
RUNWAY: Y. Project FW16
Y Project's denim-heavy Spring/Summer 2016 aimed at mixing the egalitarian, i.e. jeans, with riskier designs, like a culotte suit and elongated pullover knit. Meanwhile, oversized bomber jackets gave the collection a 90s feel and continued the play on portion and fit that's seen throughout both the men's and women's collections.

Y/Project's Glen Martens plays on the evolution of menswear for the label's FW15 collection. Elements of new and old came in the form of the fabrics he chose, from tweed to slick vinyl. Also seen were hints of urban culture, with voluminous trousers, oversized leather hoodies and more. The highlights of the collection include outerwear with metal hole details, which gave the clothes a subversive vibe, while also functioning as closure, say, for example, toggles.

Glenn Marten's futuristic Spring/Summer 2015 collection for Y/Project was full of sci-fi references, such as the shiny and reflective materials seen on abstract graphics on sleeveless tees to Marten's ascetic tailoring. The athletic elements, including plenty of drawstring pants and detailing including hooked panels, were also worth noting.

Glenn Martins unveiled Y. Project's FW14 collection today, day 1 of Paris Fashion Week, with innovative tailoring skills. Stark and angular outerwear looked cool and youthful while the independent spirit of the collection shined through with with some spectacular jackets, like a hooded coat lined with shearling, and its fluid silhouettes.
