Siki Im's latest collection had a dark and subversive thread that ran through it. Maybe it was the masks featured or the eerie forest behind the model or the louche way the clothes hung on him or the zippers that ran through entire garments. But most likely, it was a combination of it all, which drew the viewer into the collection and urged us to want or inquire for more/

Siki Im's latest collection showed many pieces from his various lines. For DEN IM (get it?) label is inspired by his time living in Oxford, England. So while the designer's technical and architectural aesthetic is still present, there are English influences seen throughout, especially noticeable in the knits. Elsewhere, high performance designs from his CROSS collection offered leather jackets and even a jumpsuit for one rides their hog.

Georgia O'Keefe's works have been constant inspirations for fashion designers of late, such as Maria Grazia Chiuri's latest pre-collection, as well as New York-based designer Siki Im. For SS18, the designer offered garments with a strong American southwest ethos. The addition of smart fabrics alongside the natural ones created a juxtaposition that was new and exciting while a host of athletic-minded clothes from Im's Cross label added swim and surfwear to his expanding stock list.

New York-based designer Siki Im eschewed a runway show this season and instead employed his friends and a few models to wear the rugged layers he created for SS17. A nomadic theme shined through, with little nicks and detailing to highlight the clothes' resilience while loose layers offered movement and comfort, two hallmarks of today's dress code.

The first shirt said it all: "Vampyros Lesbos". Siki Im's dark and sex-tinged FW16 collection was centered on the story of Lesbos, off the coast of Greece, and vampires, which could easily be a metaphor for sex and bodily fluid exchange. It was then unsurprising that the collection was strongly rooted in black and blood-red hues. Fake blood dripped off the models mouths, ears, and eyes, like that of the vampires on True Blood when they cried. The collection, combined with visuals of the models and the narrative, it helped convey a subversive and blood thirsty collection that was anchored by the graphic tees seen throughout the collection.

With the advent of #ThrowbackThursdays and Timehop, it's no wonder that Siki Im was feeling nostalgic. For SS16, the designer went a little grunge as he looked back his past after moving to New York City so many years ago. There were CDs from Sonic Youth, Nas and more that brought the idea home while technology came in new and interesting mediums, such as a motherboard of a computer that turned into a belt accessory. Meanwhile, the introduction of Den Im into the collection helped evoked a very youthful vibe. The opening performance from Anthony Costanzo and Sam Wheeler summed it all up: New York I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down, a cover of the famed LCD Soundsystem song.

Rigid layers and pop art accessories were front and center at Siki Im's Fall/Winter 2015 presentation. The collection's austere tailoring was strongest in a long wool coat with an embossed baroque pattern while collar-less jackets and trainers emphasized a sportier take on tailoring.

Asian American designer Siki Im's dystopic vision relaxed a bit for Spring/Summer 2015. This collection saw a fusion of Japanese references, think kimonos and sumo wrestling, and austere tailoring. The focus seemed to be on tailored outerwear, from a rose colored trend to an asymmetrical sheath, those looked seemed most relevant to this new world order that Im seems to be envisioning.

Siki Im played with fit and proportion for his Fall/Winter 2014 collection, a nice change of pace for Im, who studied to be an architect and whose clothes usually have a strong architectural look to them. Take for example voluminous pants that were paired with cropped coats or equally oversized coats. Also seen were etchings on some sportswear pieces, almost like he used the all-black looks as a canvas or blackboard for his creativity, while harkening Edvard Munch's The Scream. Siki Im's architectural influences were still present and it was still impressive like an intricately pebbled topcoat, slightly oversized, or angular jackets that played on triangles. In all, the collection was a step forward for the label, which has been emphasizing on an austere look for multiple season now that are heavy on black and texture.
