Utilitarianism has always been at the heart of Phillip Lim's aesthetic and that continued into FW19 where the New York-based designer offered up his take on uniforms from blue-collar uniforms to everyday "uniforms" like a signature look, be it in denim or all-black.

While resort-wear is common vernacular within the women's industry, menswear has yet to reach that level of need for inter-season collection. As is often the case, men's designers spring/summer collections tend to offer the most vacation-themed clothing and Phillip Lim offered just that with his loosely cut SS19 collection full of tropical prints. The tapered trousers, paired with boxy Cuban shirts and even wider jackets offered a relaxed and laid back collection for those who take life at a slower pace.

Phillip Lim's outdoorsy Fall/Winter 2018 collection was rooted in utility from cartoonish sized rubber soled shoes (hey, they're waterproof!) to reversible puffers, the collection's versatility was a nice counterbalance to the Lim's signature downtown cool aesthetic. Also offered were shirting options, layered and unbuttoned, an oversized turtleneck and some graphic accessories.

Artisans in fluid, paint splattered clothes were the inspiration for Phillip Lim's SS18 collection. While there some good clothes in the mix, paint splatter has been so overdone that it's hardly interesting anymore.

Paolo Roldan models Phillip Lim's FW17 collection, which offered softly tailored pieces with plenty of nifty detailing, like animal patterned lining. The animal prints also went on the outside of coats meanwhile beige played a big role in the collection, offering a clean color palette that one could dress up or down.

Slouchy uniforms were plentiful at Phillip Lim's SS16 runway show today; striped suits harkened sailor uniforms while grab olive hues were reminiscent of army fatigues. The collection's roomy proportions showcased Lim's penchant for laid back approach to dressing.

Adventure and exploration were at the forefront of Phillip Lim's latest collection. Slouchy silhouettes were seen on round shouldered coats, long and wide, while tapered pants helped achieve a slender silhouette. Meanwhile, a painted shirt said "Climb Jupiter" and large fishnet mesh shirts and prints on a blouson brought the idea of these hard bodied, mountaineering men home.

Phillip Lim fused his Asian background with American sensibility for his latest collection to reveal a sophisticated take on athletic-inspired designs. Jersey-style tees were loose and comfortable while kimono-style tops were effortlessly chic. The muted colors and subtle patterns, like windowpane and tartan, lent themselves to reinforce the quiet elegance of the collection.

Add Chinese American designer Phillip Lim to the ever growing list of designers who were inspired by the American West for FW14. The inspiration, most notably seen at Versace, showcased cowboys, horses (seen via appliqué) and more at Lim's latest runway show. Cowboys and denim are synonymous with one another and with that, Lim offered some cool iterations, seen on jackets or mixed with leather to great effect.
