Gant's Spring/Summer 2016 presentation ran the gamut of its three labels: Originals, Rugger and Diamond G. The Swedish-owned label, with its heritage rooted in Connecticut Americana, continued that tradition but emphasized a multitude of shirts in differing patterns while the limited outerwear shown was sharp and covetable with a low-key chic factor, exactly the type of chic that the monied individuals that first made Gant a global force would want.

Michael Bastian's penultimate collection with Gant has opted for a quieter SS14 showing. This no-nonsense ode to Americana and sailing is chock full of goodies from Bastian's new take on the ever-popular camouflage pant (or shorts) to a kitschy appliquéed sweater with a sail boat or one with clouds that evokes a whimsical feel.

Gant's Creative Director Christopher Bastin, not to be confused with collaborator Michael Bastian, offered an updated take on the Americana aesthetic that Gant Rugger has been known for. The company was originally from Connecticut is now owned by a Swedish company and it seems the locale of the new HQ is a big reason why this collection felt more in line with the London, Milan and Paris collections rather than what we've seen thus far during NYFW. Floral patterns made an appearance on a pair of blue pants while fall foliage was printed onto a slim cut puffer jacket. Meanwhile, a varsity inspired hoodie that was with cropped pants felt fresh, youthful and only slightly rebellious, which is exactly Gant Rugger's niche.

After last season's ode to Boston, Michael Bastian looked once again to Massachusetts as part of the inspiration for his latest collection for Gant. Bastian was inspired by famed artist Norman Rockwell and the ideals of Americana that he captured in his work. Skinny cargo pants and striped rugbys are par for the course for any Gant by Michael Bastian collection and for FW13, it was complemented by beautifully tailored jackets, pulled together in signature Bastian style: masculine with a healthy, heaping dose of dandyism.
