Relaxed suiting and business-friendly separates dominated Banana Republic's Spring/Summer 2017 offerings at NYFW.

American retailer Banana Republic showed a sharp and tailored collection for its FW16 collection, full of wearable separates, cut to create a strong masculine silhouette while accessories jazzed up the stark designs.

Global retailer Banana Republic showed a youthful collection for SS16 while staying true to their heritage of sharp suits and lower-case-f fashion. The egalitarian collection saw slimmer suits and a more athletic-minded sportswear section that seemed to mirror the current tastes of men, contrasting the wide silhouettes and billowing layers seen on the European runways.

Urbanites know the importance of functionality when it comes to dressing during the winter. It's finding the balance between warmth and fashion. For FW15, Banana Republic may have found that perfect balance in their sharply tailored offerings, like super chic trousers, hitting right at the ankle, paired with warm knits, zipped or pullover, and maybe a few layers underneath for warmth, like a plaid shirt or plain tee. There's almost always a bag to carry all the necessities. The strongest pieces were the dressier options like a chic sporty outfit on Guerrino Santulliana.

David Gandy's rough and hyper masculine aesthetic, seen mostly through his work with Dolce&Gabbana, is softened slightly in Banana Republic's vintage-inspired Spring/Summer 2012 campaign. Though we loath to compare the aesthetic to Mad Men, the reference would be fitting, given Banana Republic's range of Mad Men suits last season. For SS12, soft knits with elegant piping are key, as well as structured but tapered trousers and rich saturated colors.
