RUNWAY: Yohji Yamamoto SS19
With all due respect to the great Japanese designer
Yohji Yamamoto, when we think of sexy collections, rarely do we jump to his label as a reference. For a majority of his expansive career, Yamamoto had championed a genderless fashion code of black, drape-y clothes that men and women could both wear, so not too sexy, more practical and artsy. But for SS19, and likely as a counter balance to all the genderless collections being made and touted, he showed a sexually charged collection on those seemingly same black, drape-y clothes but with stunning paintings of women in various states of pleasure and also flowers, a common symbol for virginity and purity in many cultures. It was a sight to see louder and evocative clothing from Yamamoto.
