RUNWAY: Yohji Yamamoto FW17
Turn of the 20th century, during the Industrial Revolution, was a focus at
Yohji Yamamoto's FW17 collection, bringing together his signature languid layers with a focus on workmanship, both in the clothes and men that wore them. Unlike a certain Italian label that celebrated 51 individuals whose only claim to fame or fortune or "talent" is being pretty and telling a joke in a 6 second video, Yamamoto's latest collection offered a celebration of hard work, seen in the luxurious velvet robes and deconstructed suits and in the work of men that built skyscrapers, bridges and infrastructures and advanced society.
