2010: High Fashion Meets Fast Fashion

7) Lanvin's Creative duo, Elbaz & Ossendrjiver, create capsule collection with H&M

Moroccan-born, New York-taught designer, Alber Elbaz breathed new life into the century old fashion house started by Jeanne Lanvin in 1909. Mr. Elbaz, with the help of Lucas Ossendrjiver for menswear, helped solidify the fashion house as the zenith of romantic, Parisian clothes.

H&M, the Swedish company known for their fast fashions and annual collaboration with high-end designers, unveiled their capsule collection with the 100 year fashion house on November 2, 2010, followed by a runway shoe (featuring womenswear only) on November 18. Previous collaborations for H&M include Tamara Mellon for Jimmy Choo, Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor & Rolf and Matthew Williamson.

The capsule collection with Lanvin, however, set new heights and was feverishly lauded by the fashion industry. When the pieces went on sale (on November 20 in the USA and November 22 in the rest of the world), the entire collection was snatched up quickly and soon ended up on auction sites like eBay, selling well above retail prices.

Though the next capsule colleciton has yet to be announced, rumors are already flying that Tom Ford or Miuccia Prada may create a collection. Both deny it and say they're only rumors. We would highly agree that both would be an unlikely pairing, especially in the case of Mr. Ford, who is not a fan of fast collections are available for the public to view.
