RUNWAY: Junya Watanabe FW16
Sustainability was a key factor in
Junya Watanabe's FW16, evidenced by the solar panels on a jacket. The Japanese designer has always been an intellectual, much like his corporate boss Rei Kawakubo. This collection's narrative was political in nature, with very snug suits, excellent for corporate warriors while a 60s theme (see the mop-tops) gave the idea of activism and populist movements. In all, the collection was particularly strong and one of his most wearable. Take the exceptional coats, whether they were traditional or for the urban jungle, like one with leather sleeves.
